ZistosHD Vehicle Search System

UPDATED: The ZistosHD All-Surface Vehicle Search System can be used to inspect all areas of a commercial or passenger vehicle. The ZistosHD Vehicle Search System offers the user visual access into many areas of a vehicle that are typically used to smuggle weapons, explosives, illegal currency, narcotics, or any contraband. Using a single multi-purpose high resolution video inspection tool that can be used in a wired or wireless mode. The system can be configured to transmit video images, in real time to remote observers not at the location. Vehicle locations such as areas under the vehicle, the engine compartment and trunk, under the seats and dash, around the wheels and inside bumper voids, and the cargo areas of a commercial vehicle can be inspected safely and effectively with a single camera tool.

Looking under the seats and dash of a vehicle can also be difficult. They require an inspector to lean into the vehicle in order to perform a visual search using a flashlight. It is often difficult to see well in these areas. Inspecting these locations orients the inspector in a position that compromises his situational awareness of surrounding people and conditions. In addition, it also places the inspectors head and face on or near the floor of the vehicle. These locations can be unsanitary and unpleasant and they can pose health risks. Climbing into cargo areas of a trailer or looking into the bed of a construction vehicle can also present physical challenges to an inspector.

The system consists of a telescoping pole camera and separate display unit. The pole camera is held by the operator by the systems control handle. The handle holds the rechargeable battery and the systems electronics and controls. The other end of the pole connects to a self-illuminating camera. The camera is mounted in a sled assembly that can be inserted under the vehicle. The hardened steel sled assembly is designed to glide on any surface.  The sled mounted camera can peer up into the void spaces in the under vehicle. The sled assembly is designed so it can be replaced in the field when worn.

We recently upgraded the camera that comes with this system. We changed the right angle color camera to have a wide angle lens. We took the Field of View from 60 degrees to 134 degrees. This change allows the operator to see from one wheel well to another when inspecting underneath the vehicle.

The same lightweight carbon fiber pole camera can then be elevated to look high or inserted into other areas. The camera can be used to inspect for clues of vehicle tampering or other suspicious indicators in other locations of the vehicle that may be of interest.

The high definition video images are viewed on a wireless battery powered video display. The display can be viewed while mounted on the pole, worn on the operator’s wrist, worn on a vest, or positioned for viewing on the operator’s chest with a hands-free neck mount. The system allows the operator to capture still images of the video or video clips. These still images and video clips are stored locally on a removable SD memory card in the display. When the camera WiFi network is shut off, after the pole camera is powered down, the display can be configured to link to a different, secondary, local WiFi network, one that has internet access. The system can then be programmed to automatically push all of the previously stored images and video clips onto a secure cloud storage resource on the internet. Once this information is stored in the cloud, it can be viewed by anyone, anywhere.

If required, the system can also be configured for wired operation, without the need to use the internal WiFi transmitter in the pole camera. The pole camera and the display utilize long-life rechargeable batteries. These batteries can power the system from 6 to 12 hours depending on use. Each system comes equipped with 2 batteries for the camera and 2 batteries for the display, as well as their charging stations.

The External Monitor Receiver (EMR)

The External Monitor Receiver is an optional accessory to the ZistosHD Pole Camera Systems. It allows users to utilize an off-the-shelf external monitor as a display option to view images generated by a ZistosHD system. The External Monitor Receiver (or EMR for short) is a physically small device that is slightly larger than a thumb drive. It plugs into a standard HDMI input on a TV, Monitor, or other display device and is powered by a USB input that can be sourced externally, or directly from the monitor.

The EMR is preloaded with the ZistosHD imaging application that the user controls with an included remote control. Real-time video that is generated by the ZistosHD system can now be seen on a screen that is large enough to allow numerous individuals to view simultaneously. The EMR receives wireless video and allows the external monitor to be positioned anywhere within the transmission range of the ZistosHD system. The External Monitor Receiver is another one of the optional accessories available in the ZistosHD line of products that expands the capabilities and the usefulness of our video systems.

Introducing the new ZistosHD Vehicle Search System

Zistos is introducing our new ZistosHD Vehicle Search System. This system is designed for a single operator to inspect vehicles for details of modification or tampering that may conceal narcotics, contraband, weapons and explosives. The system reduces the risk of operator injury by removing the need to kneel, crawl or climb during an inspection. This single, portable system can inspect an entire commercial or passenger vehicle including wheel wells, under vehicle, on top of vehicle, cargo areas, under pallets, engine compartments and passenger compartments without the need for any camera installations and in any weather conditions.

The ZistosHD Vehicle Search System combines an 8ft telescoping pole with a 1080P, self-illuminating color camera, protected by a hardened steel sled that both protects the camera as well as allows the system to glide across any hard surface. The system is powered by a high capacity, rechargeable lithium ion battery with a runtime of 6-12 hours depending on illumination levels. The image is then viewed on the accompanied HD tablet which can be used in a wireless or wired configuration depending on user preference.

When the system is equipped with its wireless bridge option, the system can be linked to an external network and stream its inspection video onto the internet. This allows the video to be viewed anywhere on a mobile device, or computer that has internet access– in real-time. The system video format is also compatible with third-party video software, such as Milestone, and many others. The removable SD card allows for easy archival of still images and video clips without taking the system out of service.

The ZistosHD Vehicle Search System with its inclusion of high capacity batteries, complete portability, for a single use system has been designed to effectively search any area in a passenger or commercial vehicle using 1080P. It is ideally suited for anyone who needs to inspect vehicles at secure checkpoints for contraband, weapons and explosives.

Zistos Backwards Compatibility Philosophy and the WXMT-WiFi Module

Zistos Corporation has always tried to keep a philosophy of backward compatibility for any new product that we have ever released. Our feeling is that our customers should not have to throw out their old model product when a new one becomes available. The backwards compatibility design philosophy has allowed our customers to build on their previous investments in our technology and add additional capability to their existing Zistos video tools.

This strategy was possible to implement from a design standpoint, because for many years the analog video technology remained the same across the spectrum of video systems and accessories designed and built by Zistos Corporation. This all changed with the introduction of the ZistosHD line of products. These wireless video systems were designed around digital HD video technology. Digital video has many benefits over analog systems, such as the increased resolution and its ability to transmit encrypted video to other displays and across networks. The very nature of the digital video signals makes them inherently incompatible with our older analog systems.

This is why we designed our WXMT-WiFi module for our older systems that may still be in use by our customers and still have many more years of use left. The WXMT-WiFi module acts like a bridge between our older systems and our newest ZistosHD systems. The WXMT-WiFi can plug into the video output of our older analog WalkAbout display. The device digitizes the analog video and makes it compatible with the newer digital displays that are used on our newest ZistosHD line of video products. This allows the older systems to still have value and allows them to be used to generate wireless, encrypted, digital video images that can be viewed on our wireless 5” and 10” displays.

Our WXMT-WiFi module was designed to provide a way for customers with older systems to benefit from some features of the ZistosHD advanced technology, without having to make a significant investment in an entirely new system.

Features of WXMT-WiFi Module:

  • Small accessory that allows for the connection of wireless HD Tablets to the wired WalkAbout system.
  • Creates wireless a network and allows for the addition of up to 3 HD tablets (running ZistosHD application) in addition to the WalkAbout monitor.
  • Works with ANY Zistos WalkAbout system and connects to ANY ZistosHD Tablet.
  • Connects to our StealthSCOPE & ExplorerSCOPE as well.

Benefits of WXMT-WiFi Module:

  • No additional system batteries or components required. Only the WXMT-WiFi Module and an HD display.
  • It allows for a dedicated observer that is focused on the image to decode and report what they see to the operator from afar.
  • The HD tablets, used with the WXMT-WiFi, will work with any future ZistosHD gear purchase.
  • Whether looking for a suspect in a dangerous location, searching for a victim in rubble, checking cargo and vehicles for contraband or industrial inspections, having an untethered second set of eyes is always beneficial.

ExplorerSCOPE™, a Revolution in Cargo Security

The ExplorerSCOPE (Part#: ESM) is our most technologically advanced tool for cargo security and counter-terrorism operations. It is a 9mm diameter videoscope that allows an inspector to make a complete visual assessment of the interior of shipping containers, trailers and other cargo vessels, through a hole as small as 10mm in diameter without opening doors or hatches.

Designed for maximum portability, the ExplorerSCOPE is battery-powered and combines a powerful internal laser light source, coupled with electronically-enhanced low-light video and a built-in high-resolution video monocular. It can generate images as far as 30+ feet away in pitch black conditions. The ExplorerSCOPE can be a highly effective tool in search/discovery operations, where human trafficking, narcotics, and other contraband may be hidden in cargo areas.

The basic system is packed in a small, hard case that contains the scope, optional 5.5” display, guide tube, batteries and battery charger. A backpack version is also available with the same components plus a cordless drill with drill bit, spare battery, and charger. An optional WiFi transmitter adapter allows real-time video images from the scope to be wirelessly transmitted to other displays.

Criminal and terrorist activities remain a continuous threat. Zistos Corporation offers safe and effective solutions to help detect and thwart smuggling and terrorist activities.
