ZistosHD Optical Zoom Cameras

A valuable feature of any remote video inspection system is the ability to zoom in and get a close-up of a point of interest without having the operator be in close physically proximity. In some instances, getting close to the point of interest is not possible because it is either impossible to access, or getting into a close inspection position is dangerous to the inspector.

The ZistosHD systems offer a true optical zoom feature that can magnify the image to many times its true size. Optical zoom uses a series of adjustable lenses that are controlled by the operator to magnify an image. Digital zoom cameras magnify an image by artificially increasing the number of pixels to make an object appear larger. Digital zoom cameras reduce the resolution of an image when they magnify its size. Optical cameras maintain the highest image resolution, even when they are at maximum magnification. The ZistosHD zoom cameras utilize optical zoom and maintain full resolution at maximum zoom settings.

Zistos’ zoom cameras are available in 10X (WPC-2.5Z-HD) and 30X (WPC-3.5Z-HD) optical magnification options. These cameras are housed in rugged, waterproof housings. Both have audio listening capabilities, self-illuminating LEDs, and provide high definition 1080p images and video. Our 10X camera has both white light and IR (WPC-2.5ZIR-HD) illumination options. The cameras can be fixed with additional side illuminators.  The systems can also be equipped with a talkback speaker box for full duplex audio. This allows the operator to listen and communicate back with others who may be in the inspection location. These zoom cameras are compatible with all ZistosHD systems.

The ZistosHD wireless bridge accessory allows the system to interface to a standard cell-modem, (a product that is offered by most major cellular carriers). This allows transmission of real-time video from anywhere that has cell coverage – to anywhere that has internet access!

We would welcome the opportunity to set up a virtual product demonstration so you and your team can see the ZistosHD Portable Pole Camera System with our optical zoom camera in operation. These sessions can take as little as 15 minutes and can be scheduled at your convenience.

The ZistosHD Handle

The HD Handle is the common modular component of the ZistosHD family of pole camera inspection products. It houses all of the controls, power, and WiFi transmitters for the system to function. The HD handle attaches to any ZistosHD camera pole or cable on one end, and the battery module is seated in the handle on the opposite end. The ZistosHD handle is designed with an ergonomic hand grip and offers easily accessible and intuitive keypad controls. These features allow the system to be operated by a single individual, with a minimal amount of training on system use and function.

The 9-button keypad on the ZistosHD handle module is designed to be actuated by the operator’s thumb. The 9 buttons include; Illumination Up & Down, Zoom In & Out, Motorized Pan Up & Down, Special Function, Snapshot and Record Video Start/Stop (see above image for button locations). The special function button’s purpose will vary with system configuration. The ZistosHD systems also offer full control redundancy. All of the keypad control functions are also available for the operator to select using touch screen menu overlays on the display module.

The rechargeable batteries that power the system reside in ZistosHD handle. The rechargeable L-ion batteries offer extended run-times. They also feature an integral LCD display that can alert the operator on the battery charge levels – even when the system is powered off (Learn more about our batteries here). The handle also contains the system’s WiFi radio that is configured with dual antennas. This design feature optimizes wireless performance and maximizes transmission and reception range.

Other communication accessories are available, such as a hardwired connection adapter cables and our optional WiFi bridge module. The WiFi bridge allows our system to connect with other external wireless networks. The various wireless and wired communication system options increase the overall system capability. They allow the video images to be viewed and shared by individuals who are both local and remotely situated.

All in all, the ZistosHD Handle is the module that allows full-control of our systems. It houses the control actuator buttons, power and transmitters needed for system function. Its impact resistant, lightweight and ergonomical design make all of the ZistosHD systems highly effective and easy to operate.

5 Reasons to Use ZistosHD Rescue Tools

1.        High Capacity Batteries
2.        Motorized Articulation
3.        Low-Latency Video
4.        Wide Array of Interchangeable Accessories
5.        Connectivity to External Networks

High Capacity Long-Lasting Batteries

Rescue teams are often positioned in out-of-the-way locations and in time-critical situations. Being able to quickly swap out a battery and know it will last for the duration of a much-needed rescue mission is vital.

ZistosHD Rescue Systems all use long-lasting, rechargeable Smart Lithium-ion batteries. The Extended Capacity Battery (BAT-15XL) is included with all of the ZistosHD Rescue Systems. The BAT-15XL can typically run for 6-12 hours, depending on camera options and illumination settings. The battery also has an easily viewable, built-in five segment LCD charge level indicator, which displays the charge level even when it is not connected to the system.

Articulating Motorized Poles

Lightweight, easy-to-use rescue tools are essential for technical search teams. The ZistosHD telescoping poles offer the flexibility and durability needed for real-life conditions.  The HD motorized series are weatherproof, lightweight carbon fiber poles, which makes using them excellent for extended time, and in any environment.

The ZistosHD motorized poles allow the operator to adjust the camera position remotely. This is important when the pole is extended and the camera is not accessible to the operator, or it is inserted into a collapsed structure or void space in rubble.

These poles terminate with an articulating camera mount and enable the operator to remotely rotate the camera to pan +/- 120°. The motion is controlled using the buttons on the HD Handle, or using the touch screen controls on the display. The operator can control zoom, video capture, illumination and more. The HD Poles use easy twist collars to expand and collapse, and are available in lengths from 3 to 30 feet. Unlike many existing articulating pole cameras, our camera has a specially designed slip-clutch that provides protection against damage to the motor assembly if the camera is forced backwards when in use.

Low-Latency Wireless Video Streaming

For rescue missions, low-latency video supports operations that require near real-time access to quickly changing conditions. Many other digital video systems are plagued by slow response that can create a delay of many seconds between the event and the viewable video image. The low-latency performance of the ZistosHD systems allows the video images to be viewable without a significant delay.

The system can also be utilized in a wired configuration when wireless operation is not feasible. The ZistosHD system will directly support up to three different wireless viewers concurrently. The encryption of the video stream helps ensure that sensitive information will not be intercepted by unauthorized parties. The system supports WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption for secure video transmission. It also can be configured for fully-wired operation for situations where wireless operation is not practical. The system’s video is also compatible with commonly used ATAK compliant external radios.

Wide Variety of Interchangeable System Options

ZistosHD’s modular design allows maximum flexibility for the rescue team in the field. One system can be configured to serve multiple applications, and added to as needs arise. Interchangeable poles — different types and lengths — can be paired with an array of camera technologies such as ultra low-light, 10X zoom, and dual mode thermal that generates both standard B/W video and thermal imaging. Maximizing the usefulness of a system also enables rescue departments to get the most from their investment in Zistos equipment. ZistosHD components are deliberately designed to be compatible with new and future system options.

External Network

Video images can be shared with others to view situations as they unfold in real-time, on multiple displays. Zistos offers an optional WiFi network bridge attachment, which enables multiple ZistosHD systems to be simultaneously viewed on a single computer via a common external network at a command location.

Digital ZistosHD Tactical Systems

The ZistosHD system offers a state-of-the-art, high resolution tactical video tool that allows a tactical team to make a safe visual assessment of dangerous conditions, using highly detailed video images. The new ZistosHD encrypted wireless video system supports full 1080P HD video with most camera options. This new system design maximizes its suitability for use in many different tactical applications by offering interchangeable modules. They can be switched in the field to enhance the effectiveness of the system, in many different environments and applications. The system has been engineered to offer the highest resolution images that can be viewed on a variety of different digital display options, such as phones, tablets, laptops. The ZistosHD system will support up to three different simultaneous viewers. The images can be transmitted via wired or wireless methods and the phone display can be pole, or wrist-mounted.

Unlike the older easily compromised analog wireless video, our new wireless technology has been selected to provide a safe encrypted video stream that cannot be intercepted and is viewable without an appreciable delay.

The heart of the ZistosHD Tactical Video System is the ergonomically designed HD Handle. The handle offers integrated push buttons that facilitate all operations, including, illumination level control, still image capture, video record, zoom functions and motorized camera pan controls. The handle accepts a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that has an easily viewable, built-in battery charge level indicator. The battery charge level is even viewable when the system is off or the batteries are unplugged from the handle. The battery runtime will typically last 6+ hours depending on camera options and illumination settings. An external power input is also available as an option for alternate external power sources. The handle is ruggedly designed and all antennas are internal to prevent damage from rough handling.
